Questions sometimes asked about our message:

<< Back to The Message

1. “Do you focus on second blessing teaching in your definition of the Baptism in the Holy Spirit?” The answer is no. We believe this divides the body of Christ. This teaching has especially developed in Western church history. We believe that our outreach to Eastern Christianity should not be divisive. We also believe the power of God in mission is not based on personal holiness, but on the free gift (charisma) of faith by grace alone (through Jesus’ blood and merit). We do believe in all of the gifts of the Holy Spirit including tongues, prophecy, healings, miracles and ministry callings, etc. We believe the baptism in the Holy Spirit is the new birth and that it includes the power of the Spirit for witness, according to the faith that God gives.

2. “Do you focus on the nation of Israel as an end-times issue?” The answer again is no. This is an important question due to the nature of our outreach to Arab related people groups. It can isolate Eastern Christians. We believe that this is largely a political matter, not central to the gospel of Jesus Chris and divides the body of Christ between West and East. We are all one in Jesus Christ; whether Jew or Gentile, Eastern or Western. “For whosoever shall do the will of God, the same is My brother, and My sister, and mother.” (Mk 3:35)
As a missionary/helper/co-labourer organisation we focus on the central issues of the gospel of Jesus Christ that unite the whole body. “For by (through, with, in) one Spirit we are baptised into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have all been made to drink into one Spirit.” (1 Cor 12:13)
While leaving the times and the season in the Father’s hands, we acknowledge Christ’s command to “occupy” in this world, and His prayer that we be not taken from it, while we live by the values of His kingdom which is above. (Lk 19:13, Jn 17:15) We have an holistic mission, including evangelism and positive personal, local and national transformation.

3. “What do you preach about grace?” This can be summarized by the last paragraph in the chapter on sanctification in Christ in You (page202): The grace of Christ delivers us from sin, just as Hudson Taylor found. When we say that the New Testament is unconditional we mean that without any conditions attached God makes us a son by putting His Spirit within us and by His own power and grace causes us to walk in His statutes. This was exactly the promise of God through the prophets (Ezek 36).
This does not preclude our personal responsibility as believers to stand in faith, to resist temptation, to walk in God’s will and love and to fulfil our service with obedience and passion through the power of His Spirit… i.e. “work out (live out) our salvation”. The point is that this is to the praise of His glory and grace and not to us: “For it is God who works in you both to will and to do of His good pleasure.” (Phil 2:13)
