To provide education in conflict, reconciliation and peacebuilding
Since the recent crisis in northern Nigeria many culturally Muslim and Christian youth live in separated communities and even go to different schools. Although parents may do this to protect and shelter their children, in the long term, it significantly contributes to community division and violence when order breaks down. Youth are not learning essential peace building skills, not understanding why conflict occurs and not experiencing the ‘humanity’ of the other.
CFM’s Vanguard for Peace actively works to educate and inform youth in schools and through other events. We train youth on both sides to understand conflict, its causes and how to build skills in responding peacefully. Vanguard for Peace works across all our projects in providing these key trainings to our staff.
